Hi, I'm Summer. I specialize at creating fine art film and digital portraits using natural and ambient light. My goal is always to make photographs that capture the unique energy and honesty of the moment. Telling an authentic visual story about people and places is everything to me.

I have spent many formative years of my life as an expat overseas, throughout Europe and the Middle East. Traveling and exploring new landscapes have left visual imprints on my heart - both as a child and now as a parent. These moments continue to influence how I see everyday moments and interpret beauty. I am also a Librarian. I have worked for school libraries in the US Midwest and the Arabian Middle East. I have a passion for words and reading, and for helping kids gain better access to books. I am involved with some amazing charities that I'll gladly tell you about if you are interested!

My favorite portraits are soulful, emotionally resonant, and true - with very minimal digital edits. I especially love the timeless feel of black and white emulsions.  After many years of experimenting with various styles, trends and approaches to my work, I think I am best at noticing and documenting connection: your heart's connection to the people in the frame with you, to your home, your natural surroundings and the places you are experiencing; and to yourself.
